Certificate Course In Health Promotion
If you are someone who is willing to improve your own and other people’s health and well- being in an effective manner, and enjoy working with people in the communities, work places and any other organization, you would gain relevant knowledge, learn skills and acquire attitudes that are really useful
Target Group
Government officers, (Teachers, PHIs, PHMs), NGO and privet sector officials, University Students And anyone with interest in empowering themselves as well as others
Course content
- Overview of health promotion
- Concept of Health and well-being
- Physical well-being
- Mental well-being
- Social and Spiritual well-being
- Determinants of health
- How do those determinants operate at various levels
- Identification of determinants of health in one’s own community/ family
- Identification of the point of interaction of vectors in the community
- Introduction to NCD (including Tobacco, Alcohol and other substance prevention)
- Introduction to ECCD
- Introduction to mental well- being (including Suicide, self-harm and violence prevention)
- Simple quantitative methods; taking averages and counts
- Simple qualitative methods; noting and recording observations
- Visual analogue scales/ Likert scales and visual depictions of progress
- Community based health promotion model
- Working in the community and starting a health promotion process
- Approaching the community and establishing links
- Possible problems that one may encounter
- Ethical issues in community interventions
- Qualities of a skilled facilitator
- To be carried out in one’s own community; these would be some supervised activities and observed learning at this level rather than an independent project
Lectures will be conducted via hybrid mode on Saturdays from 9.00am – 3.00pm And onsite one Saturday per month

- Applicants who seek admission to the programme are required to have the following minimum qualifications
- Passed the GCE O/L examination,
- Or equivalent or qualification acceptable by the institution
- Course Fee: Rs. 35,000.00 (including registration fee)
- Duration: 6 Months
- Course commencement: September 2024
