Course content
  • Overview of health promotion
  • Concept of Health and well-being
  • Physical well-being
  • Mental well-being
  • Social and Spiritual well-being
  • Determinants of health
  • How do those determinants operate at various levels
  • Identification of determinants of health in one’s own community/ family
  • Identification of the point of interaction of vectors in the community
  • Introduction to NCD (including Tobacco, Alcohol and other substance prevention)
  • Introduction to ECCD
  • Introduction to mental well- being (including Suicide, self-harm and violence prevention)
  • Simple quantitative methods; taking averages and counts
  • Simple qualitative methods; noting and recording observations
  • Visual analogue scales/ Likert scales and visual depictions of progress
  • Community based health promotion model
  • Working in the community and starting a health promotion process
  • Approaching the community and establishing links
  • Possible problems that one may encounter
  • Ethical issues in community interventions
  • Qualities of a skilled facilitator
  • To be carried out in one’s own community;  these would be some supervised activities and observed learning at this level rather than an independent project
Lectures will be conducted via hybrid mode on Saturdays from 9.00am – 3.00pm And onsite one Saturday per month

  • Applicants who seek admission to the programme are required to have the following minimum qualifications
    • Passed the GCE O/L examination,
    • Or equivalent or qualification acceptable by the institution
  • Course Fee: Rs. 35,000.00 (including registration fee)
